Reader tips make grass stains disappear
By MISSY McADAMS / Staff Writer
We asked our readers to share their ideas for removing grass stains. Here are some of the tips: • Debbie Heibert of Brentwood uses Oxi-Clean to get rid of her grass stains. • Anita McGrath of Cottontown says Murphy's oil soap (for use on floors) works best for her. Rub the oil soap into the stain with an old toothbrush and wash as usual. It also works on tomato stains, mustard and more.
• Pam Toline of Cookeville, Tenn., claims that Simple Green is the best product to remove grass stains. She also shared that a bar of Ivory soap and water work best to remove ground in, sweaty dirt. Just wet the stain, rub the soap in and wash. No more wasted money on fancy detergent. • Carme Miller of Brentwood has an unusual tip that she says really does the trick. She uses unseasoned meat tenderizer to pre-treat the stain. Simply wet the stain and rub the meat tenderizer directly on the stain. Let it sit for a while, then wash. If that doesn't work, try using Goop (a type of hand cleaner used by mechanics) on the stain. • Darlee Dodson of Whites Creek also shared her tip on removing grass stains (and red mud!). She uses a bar of Ivory soap and ice water. Wet the stain with the ice water, rub the Ivory soap into the stain and scrub. Work the soap in well and it should remove the stain, she says.
