From one star to another
Kellye Cash takes lead role in 'Always … Patsy Cline' If you're going to portray country music royalty, you might as well tap others of the same ilk to do it. And that's precisely why you'll find Kellye Cash, niece of Johnny Cash, playing Patsy Cline in Cumberland County Playhouse's version of Always … Patsy Cline. The show opens Saturday at the playhouse in Crossville, Tenn.
It's the story of Cline, the legendary country singer of the 1950s and '60s, and her friendship with Texas housewife Louise Seger. Cash, who won the 1987 Miss America crown, is also a Christian music recording artist. She regularly performs in concerts and theater productions, and starred as Cline in the playhouse's 2004 run of Always, as well. Cash is joined by Patty Payne as Seger. Payne is best known to local audiences for her 12-year run as June Sanders in Smoke on the Mountain. Always returns due to last year's sold-out houses and waiting lists. It includes a live band and more than 20 country standards and Cline hits. — Fiona Soltes, For The Tennessean getting there Cumberland County Playhouse presents Always … Patsy Cline Saturday through June 12.
